Shared ownership properties offer people a chance to get on the property ladder without having to have such a large deposit. If you have one of these types of properties, you will own a certain percentage of the property and a housing developer or association will own the other.
Over time you can purchase more shares in the property to eventually make it 100% yours. This is usually done in 10% increments in a process known as ‘staircasing’.
